David pushed the ancient wooden door timidly as his friends cowered behind him; equal parts terrified and exhilarated. With a great creak it gave way, and a dark and dank hallway stretched out before them. Not long had they set foot inside when a great gust of wind slammed the door behind them. They wrestled against the rusted handle, dismayed to find themselves trapped in that cavernous darkness. Searching for another exit, they come upon a staircase descending into ground. Their curiosity triumphed over their fear, and the men ventured into the abyssal basement below. It was empty, except for an ornate black coffin lying in the centre of the room. John and Tobias looked to David expectantly, and with a sigh of resignation he placed his hands against the lid. It wouldn’t budge, so others joined him in turn all three heaved against it with their might. The jagged edge of the lid cut into David’s palm and he gave out a startled cry as it fell with a crash to the floor below. They staggered back in shock, for there in the coffin lay neither an old hag nor a rotting corpse, but a young and beautiful woman. David stepped forward, placing his hand against her neck to feel for a pulse. “She’s dead” he remarked, as his hand drew away from her icy skin. At that moment, a drop of blood from his hand fell upon her lips. “You’re bleeding” said Tobias, “let’s get out of here and call the police.” As the three hurried towards the staircase, they heard rustling behind them.
